Scanning, your photos, letters, paper your life

Scanning, for those who don't own a scanner.  Stop now - climb in your car and buy one.  Yes it is that useful.  We've been hearing a log about paperless, save the planet.  For me it is more about finding a useful note years later.

I've been thinking about how to effectively backup information for over two years now.  The technology on the web has changed so much.  There are so many new apps every day.  So many new ways to do things.  Everyone is giving away some cloud storage for free, some with apps others with various options.  In all the world has opened up concerning document handling on the web.

I haven'be been scanning much of late but decided to take up the habit again.  It is really useful.  Let me explain.

If you are keen on taking notes (on paper), what do you do with it?  How do you store it that it has relevance two years later?  What do you currently do with those hundreds of pieces of paper that meant something 10 years ago.  If you are like me, you constantly study up, constantly making notes.  It is so frustrating when you've made some great assessment of a book 5 years ago but now you cant find that mindmap, or summary .  You go to a meeting and make some notes 6 years ago about a client/product etc. anything. What do you do with it when it is important?

Well enter the scanner.

A few years ago it was really not that much fun with a scanner, the scanner not really being the problem as much as the software you use for document handling.  It is not that difficult to scan but that is just another photo to the thousands you already have.  Software these days especially in regards to document handling is absolutely brilliant and still I feel that is an understatement.

Here is some software/space that you can look at using.  They differ a bit here and there with different types of features but most of them has a few gigs for free to store your stuff on, on the internet.  That means that it is already backed up for you.

On the next blog I will write some more on how to use these services.
